The Machinist
Trevor Reznik, a machine operator, loses his ability to sleep. However, this is no ordinary case of insomnia. Due to extreme fatigue and sleeplessness, his physical health and mental stability begin to deteriorate. His coworkers, initially disturbed by his strange appearance, become more wary of him, especially after a workplace accident in which one of the men loses his arm. As a result, Trevor becomes the target of blame. He is now both a liability to himself and to others, and the only thing the workers want is for him to leave.
When Trevor realizes they are conspiring to get him fired, his feelings of guilt slowly turn into doubt and paranoia. Should he expect something worse? He begins to find secret notes at his home. Are all these mysteries part of a scheme designed to drive Trevor insane, or is everything simply the result of extreme sleep deprivation and exhaustion? As he investigates the strange occurrences around him, Trevor’s life turns into an insomniac nightmare. The more he uncovers, the more he wishes he knew less.
