Taxi Driver
In perhaps the most striking film in the filmographies of both Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, we follow Vietnam veteran Travis as he drives a taxi through the streets of 1970s Manhattan. Throughout the story, Travis struggles to connect with the life around him and the “filth of society” he encounters (including a child prostitute, a beautiful blonde, a senatorial candidate, and a deranged pimp). Ultimately, he will take control of his fate. Moreover, this is depicted in a “wild” style reminiscent of the films he watches during the day. Not only is it one of the most impactful films of all time due to its unique screenplay and performances, but it is also remarkable for its extraordinary cinematography.
