Ellison Oswalt, a true crime writer, travels with his wife, Tracy, and two children from one end of the country to the other to research material for his novel about horrific murders. In the apartment they rent, every previous resident of the house has been killed. Ellison discovers a mysterious box in the attic of the house. Inside the box, he finds a projector and dozens of videotapes. He decides to watch the tapes, and the results are chilling. The tapes show snuff films, recording the torture and murders of families that had lived in the house before. Horrified, Ellison decides to uncover the truth behind the murders.
