The tragic death of their unborn child has devastated Kate and John, negatively affecting both their marriage and Kate’s fragile state of mind, as Kate is haunted by nightmares and demons from her past. Trying to get their lives back to normal, the couple decides to adopt another child.
Both John and Kate feel drawn to a little girl named Esther at a local orphanage… but Esther is not what she seems. Fearing for her family’s safety, Kate tries to show John and others behind Esther’s sweet mask.
But his warnings go unheeded and this situation continues until it is perhaps too late for everyone.

After their marriage difficulties culminate in the loss of their unborn child,
Kate and John Coleman, who have a daughter and a son, decide that the best way to heal their wounds is to welcome another person into their lives and adopt nine-year-old Esther. Esther lost her previous foster family in a house fire and barely escaped.
